Our Intended Impact
With geo storms projected to ravage the earth with radiation flares in the summer of 2025 and world leaders already considering space travel as humanity’s last hope, it is more important now than ever to develop an innovation to make permanent living in space less hostile. Even with our current technology, The National Institute of Health writes that “astronauts would still receive potentially significant elevations in radiation dose even within a shielded spacecraft and remain vulnerable, especially on long-duration missions.”
The advantages of Radiurance wristbands are that they are portable and compact, making the user take them wherever they go and providing dynamic protection. Radiurance also generates electricity and is very electrically efficient, using only 0.05 volts to generate a current of 225 amperes. Additionally, Radiurance is a noninvasive form of protection as it is easy to wear continuously without requiring major modifications to the spacesuit or gear.
Radiurance is positioned as a convenient and effective alternative for space agencies and nuclear power plants. Radiurance Wristband Key Features
Solenoid with Iron Core and Copper MRI Wires
A solenoid with an iron core produces an even stronger magnetic field. Pairing this with the 2 meters of copper MRI wires give a more reliable field, making anything within a 1.5m radius radiation resistant
Lithium Ion Battery
Rubber Wristband
Our Battery can last around 20 hours of usage, making it perfect to wear throughout the day or for missions in space!
To prevent electrocution from the solenoid apparatus attached to the arm, we are covering the entire wristband in 2mm thick rubber. The rubber (1mm thick) can handle to 10,000 to 30,000 volts. This is more than enough for our voltage usage- 0.05 volts!
Screen
The screen (located next to the switch) will provide the user information on the becquerels of radiation present and the device's battery life.
Steel tray
To hold multiple tools at once, turn on the switch to activate the magnetic field and attach the tools to the plate. If the device has to be turned off, the tools can still be strapped on with the elastic.
Detachable and customisable charging cord
Pull out the right end of the switchable charging cord (which lies near the metal plate) to use the electricity to charge external devices or machines. Our device generates electricity as a byproduct and this prevents wastage
